Thanks for the Memories! Let's do it again!

This whole elementary blog idea started in 2000 when a few RHS classmates' emails spread like wildfire. This blog consists mostly of conversations regarding our 40th reunion and, of course, memories from our elementary days. As we approach our 45th reunion, please share your comments, memories and wishes on our RHS Class of '70 Facebook page. Let's start with...
Are you interested in reuniting with your elementary classmates again in 2015?

What memory from Ridge School has stayed with you?

Miss P's 6th grade class presenting "Tom Sawyer" and Mr. D's class presenting "The Wizard of Oz." We spent what seemed like days painting the stalactites for the cave scene in TS.

  2. Harry Benedict catching and being bitten by a squirrel. Great field days with the upper grades split into teams.

Yes, Tom Sawyer was the end of my promising dramatic career when I become completely paralyzed with stage fright while singing (or actually, failing to sing) as Aunt Polly. I remember the Intellectual Conversationalists in that crazy combined 5/6 grade class with Mrs. Caldwell. The fifth grade girls made it up to cover our lack of athletic ability. We would sit on the sidelines and chat. By the way, I didn't really learn fractions til about 9th grade because somehow in the confusion of teaching 2 grades, fractions fell thru the cracks.

Dolly and Lynn, how are you both?
Yes, I remember Tom Sawyer, too. I recall my part involved standing next to Stacy Moore with an enormous bow in my hair, licking a huge lolly pop, and otherwise keeping my mouth shut. I also have very fond memories of our sixth-grade science week at Ringwood Manor. Probably looms so large in my mind because I think it was probably the first time I'd ever been away from home.
I transferred to Ridge from a Catholic school in Glen Rock in the middle of fourth grade, and the sudden addition of art, music, and phys ed instruction in my life was stunning. When I think back on it now, I recall Ridge had no art room per se, isn't that right? Didn't the art teacher come to our rooms periodically to lead us in some pretty great projects (creating jewelry out of polished stones and copper wire, and making 3-D topographical maps out of corrugated cardboard come to mind). And the music teacher--was he Mr. Block?--taught us in the corridors, since I assume there was no real music room. Even lacking proper facilities, however, I felt we learned tons. Nothing like a good teacher, and Ridge seemed to be pretty full of them.

  5. I remember hearing about Harry Benedict being bitten by a squirrel, and whenever I saw a squirrel for years after that, I could think of nothing else!
Remember Mr. Jacobs, our custodian? And remember Miss Way, our librarian? Mary, I think Mr. Block is correct, and I also remember our art teacher -- wasn't it Mr. Bookstaber? We also did lots of great art projects with Mr. DeFalco in his 6th grade class. Does anyone from Mr. DeFalco's class remember how we each had to write "Proofread" as our middle name for a while?
Remember our 4th grade space-age play in Mrs. Grove's class, with Bill Tobey as our astronaut?
